It really all began in 1977 by sampling the perfect slice of thin crust New York style pizza.

My first journey to New York City was in the Summer of 1977. I was 15 years old living in NJ and extremely bored. I grabbed a few friends and asked them to scrape up $[site] for the day. Back then it was enough for a round trip bus ticket, a slice of pizza, a coke, and something delicious for dessert.

We accomplished it all and ended the day outside a tiny cafe listening to an elderly man playing a sitar (I had no idea what a sitar was in 1977). This food and cultural experience was the beginning of Foods of New York Tours (even though I didn't realize it at the time).
